Benlea Cottage is great holiday house accommodation situated in the Rakaia Gorge, Canterbury, New Zealand, close to Mount Hutt, Lake Coleridge, Methven and right next door to Terrace Downs High Country Resort. It is in an area with a wealth of activities that vary with the seasons such as skiing, walking, golf, jet boating and fishing. The cottage is in a secluded spot with magnificent views of Mount Hutt and receives the sun all day long providing the ideal place to just relax. For those preferring a more active holiday, the cottage is central to many of the activities available locally and only an hour from Christchurch and the International airport.
How to get here
Follow the map to Coleridge Road and then travel 7.3 kms from Highway 72, or 1.2 kms from the Zigzag Road towards Lake Coleridge. At 728 Coleridge Rd with the sign "Benlea" on the post and rail fence, turn right up the first, larger driveway (on the right hand side of the row of trees) and go past the farm sheds and on to the top of the hill where you will see Benlea Cottage on the right. Cottage Amenities Kitchen - Well equipped with electric stove and oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and utensils. We have put a small supply of useful grocery items in the cupboard that you may use but please replace them with a similar or equally useful item. Tea, coffee, and sugar are supplied (not milk). Lounge/Dining - The kitchen/dining/lounge area is an L-shaped open plan design warmed by all day sun and a log burner in the winter (wood is supplied). A TV, DVD and video are supplied plus a range of videos and DVDs.
Bathroom/Laundry - The bathroom has a shower and vanity. The toilet is separate. An automatic washing machine is installed. Outdoors - Outside the lounge there is a deck with views across to Mount Hutt. There is a carport for parking and ample room for boats etc. The lawns provide a large, fenced area for children to play on plus there's a sandpit for the little ones.
The cost to stay at Benlea Cottage is $NZ75.00 per night for the first two people and $NZ15.00 per head per extra adult over 17 years. Preschool and school children accompanying adults are free. Activities
There are many close by activities. Ski at Mt Hutt, Mt Olympus or Porter Heights, jet boat on the Rakaia River, fish at Lake Coleridge or the Rakaia river, four wheel drive tours, hot air ballooning, golf at neighbouring Terrace Downs Golf Resort, several local walkways and numerous restaurants and cafes within 20 minutes drive.
